At CMU-Q, we begin the ceremony with a reading of the Arabic poem, “Students of Knowledge and Virtue,” by Gibran Khalil Gibran. The poem reader for this year is Aina AlObaidan.

The dean of CMU-Q, Michael Trick, welcomes everyone to the ceremony and shares his words of congratulations and reflection with the graduates.

James H. Garrett Jr, the provost and chief academic officer of Carnegie Mellon University, delivers his address to the Class of 2025.

One of the most anticipated moments of the graduation ceremony is the announcement of the awards. The awards presented are:

  • Meritorious Teaching Award
  • Qatar Campus Scholars
  • Andrew Carnegie Society Scholars
  • Outstanding Academic Achievement Awards

During the last semester of the senior year, the student speaker is chosen from the graduates to represent the class at the graduation ceremony. Representing the Class of 2025 is Fatima Yousaf, who delivers remarks on behalf of the class.

When a new class of students begins their studies at CMU-Q, they are presented with a bronze tile that is stamped with the year of graduation. On Graduation Day, the student speaker returns the tile to Dean Trick, and it is later installed in the walkway leading to the building. The class tiles are a permanent part of the CMU-Q landscape, commemorating each class that graduates from the campus.

Tonight, graduates will receive their diplomas in biological sciences, general studies, business administration, computer science and information systems. Students who have earned honors will have those honors read after their names.
